Content formats

A format is the shape of the video: tutorial, reaction, commentary, challenge, story, review, news, highlight, behind the scenes, or an episode in a series.

Pick shapes you can shoot on a normal day

Formats fail when they need a crew you do not have. A commentary you can record on a walk is a better format than a sketch that needs four friends and a Saturday.

Rotate two or three formats inside your pillars. Viewers learn the shape. You stop reinventing the edit every time.

  • Tutorial: one problem, one result, under the length people finish.
  • Commentary or reaction: your take has to be the point, not the clip you are playing.
  • Challenge or story: a clear start and a payoff you do not bury.
  • Highlights and behind the scenes: only after the main show exists.
