Streaming at 1440p

1440p looks better only if your encoder, bitrate, and upload can hold it. A stable 1080p beats a 1440p stream that falls apart.

Check eligibility, then check the pipe

Higher resolution streaming, including 1440p on Twitch for some Affiliates and Partners, is part of enhanced broadcasting. Not every channel has it. Not every viewer’s player will show the full resolution. Confirm it in your dashboard and in OBS before you change the canvas.

You need a GPU encoder that can do the work, an upload with headroom, and a bitrate the platform will accept for that mode. If your current 1080p stream already drops frames, do not jump resolution. Fix the stable picture first.

  • Canvas and output resolution have to match the mode you are actually allowed to send.
  • Watch dropped frames in OBS and in the platform inspector.
  • Leave bitrate headroom for alerts, a browser source, and a second output if you multistream.
  • Tell viewers nothing until a test recording looks clean for ten minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Is 1080p still fine?

Yes. Most people are watching on a window or a phone. Clarity and a steady frame rate beat a number in your panels.
