YouTube monetization

YouTube Partner Program access, Shorts revenue, memberships, Super Chat, and shopping each have their own rules. Read your Studio page, not a screenshot from last year.

Separate "can I apply" from "what pays"

Eligibility is a threshold YouTube changes. Ad revenue, Shorts revenue, memberships, Super Chat, Super Thanks, and shopping do not all turn on at the same moment, and they do not pay the same way. Your Studio monetization tab is the list that applies to your channel.

Sponsorships, affiliates, and products you sell yourself are not the YPP. A channel can earn from a brand deal before it earns a cent from ads. Build the offer you control, and treat platform payouts as one line, not the plan.

  • Check watch hours, Shorts views, and subscriber counts inside Studio.
  • Turn on what you are eligible for. Do not assume a blog list is complete.
  • Keep a note of what you applied for and when.
  • If a video is limited, fix the issue YouTube names instead of reposting the same file.

Frequently asked questions

Should I promise viewers I am "about to get monetized"?

No. Tell them what the show is. The badge is not the content.
