Creator contracts

A contract should say what you will make, where it can be used, for how long, and what happens if they want more. Read it before you film.

Evergreen

The lines that cause pain later

Usage rights: organic post, paid ads, or both, and in which countries. Exclusivity: what you cannot say about competitors, and for how long. Whitelisting: them running ads from your handle. Revisions: how many rounds. Kill fees: if they cancel after you filmed. Payment date.

If a sentence gives them your content forever, worldwide, for any purpose, that is not a standard favor. Ask them to narrow it or pay for it. When the money is serious, have a lawyer read it. This page is not that lawyer.

Not professional advice

This is creator education. It is not legal, tax, or financial advice. Where you live changes the answer. Take contracts, companies, and deductions to a professional who works with creators.

Frequently asked questions

Is an email a contract?

It can be evidence of a deal. A clear email is better than a vibe. A real contract is better when the fee or the usage is large.
